What a day.
Cynde's (QGH) grandchild arrived.
Tom lost it. (Tom remember to take your meds)
Cecil talked about dressing up in a French maids outfit. Is that like coming out of the closet?
Timmmy sounds like a trophy husband. Good for you Tim, milk the hell out of it.
Linda got the addiction. ? post, chat. Sorry dear lady.
Someone is bashing Capriccio's. Another fake post?

To you lucky people with a free weekend, have a nice time.
To the rest, see you tomorrow.

Check Please.

Yes, it's a special Friday night. We just got home a short while ago, from the Vet's. Chaos, our 6 month old golden retriever, had been acting odd these past 3 day, not eating, panting, mushy little stools, just off. John took the day off and decided to just have him checked out to be on the safe side..... When John called me, Chaos was already in surgery - he had eaten a rock and it was lodged in his stomach! It was too large to pass, and they had to cut him open, then cut the stomach open, and remove the rock. And yes, we have the $700.00 dollar rock! We had him scheduled to be neutered next week, so just added one more insult to his injury! Boy, will he be sore tomorrow. He's resting comfortably on a quilt on the family room floor, and is doing remarkably well. Adds more emphasis to his name! So we do feel it's a special night, because he's back home and on the mend! :-)

Seriously, glad Chaos is better and boy will he be mad at you next week.....

You know those little plexiglass cubes they put signed baseballs in? I'm going to get one for the rock!

Here's the rock and the dog!
rock

He's getting fidgity - does not want to lay down. Standing like a horse asleep! One of us is always in the room with him, but so far we can't get him back to a relaxed state. (Maybe he realizes his jewels are gone, too?) At least we haven't had to put that big collar on him.

Gail - puppies will be puppies! It's good that you had "Chaos" checked out and taken care of. Rocks don't digest too well. Glad you & John realized something was wrong & took care of it. Please keep us posted on his recovery. Sounds like he's on the mend
What a way to get attention!
Hugs

here's Chaos' incision without Dad hanging over him!

Yes he is beautiful, Judy. In a different way from from lost Dagny. And I know that when you went through your trauma with Maggie, that you know where we were at today - no question - do the surgery! We may have a rough night, but we'll get through it. The Vet "mentioned" his staying there over night, but it is not a "manned" office, so there was no question that he'd be coming home. And I have to humbly mention, that I will probably still be in bed at 10... and John will take over the "Chaos Watch", but I'll be the early morning person "on duty"!

Gail...........I have way too many friends whose goldens insist on eating rocks. What with then, LOL!
My neighbor at the lake has a golden that fetches rocks out of the lake - she dives for them!

My next door neighbor had a pit bull that chewed paving stones, it was his favorite toy. The dog would dig them out of the 'tree well' in front of our home. I never asked if the dog managed to bite any bits off; too frightening a thought.

And I never got in between the pit bull and the tree well.

Gail, wow...poor little bugger. I'm sure that with all you went through in the last few months, loosing your other loved pet, that it must have been scary to have this happen. You are good mommy and daddy for taking such good care of him. Our dogs are our babies, so I know all too well what we will do for them! Please give Chaos a gentle kiss on the muzzle...oh, and what happened to your FOOT? Inquiring minds want to know!

Here's Chaos this morning. He's been on his feet most of the night, sleeping in 5 minute snatches when John could finally get him to lie down. He must have needed the gravity pull on his tummy because he insisted on standing. John was up all night, and just went in to sleep at 9. He said about 5 o'clock it was like the pup came back, and was full of life again. I got up at 7 and it looked like our old guy greeted me! Animals are amazing! Other than the shaved patch on his leg for the IV, you wouldn't know this little guy had his stomach open up less than 18 hours before.

c

My foot is finally healing. The boot is annoying, but necessary, and it beats a hard cast! I can live with it for 4 more weeks.

Gail, sorry. My golden eats everything as well, has beat cancer, and has cost me the equivalent of 2-3 Bonaire vacations. He is my best friend in the world. His name is Caymus, and I'm sure that he hopes for your dog to make a fast recovery.

Hey Gail...is he taped, stitched or stapled? I couldn't tell from the pictures. I completely understand about standing watch. When Socrates blew his second ACL, the first one was not completely healed and I slept with him on the frontroom floor for 5 days. The poor guy was so sore he went a little over 30 hours without standing up to go to the bathroom. We thought he was going to explode!

Mare...good idea. I wouldn't go between a pit and his favorite toy either. I do however play fetch with my neighbor's pit and his favorite toy.

Kelly...OMG! I was roaring at your post. We spend about $300.00 a month on Socrates' meds...I could have two tickets in four months (not to mention his surgeries). If I start measuring things in "tickets to Bon" I'd be in so much trouble.

Elvira...love is love - money doesn't matter, especially when they are so cute and give such great puppy kisses! :-)

Glad to see Chaos up and about.

Tribs - John and I are just amazed what this dog has gone through. The Vet, Dr. Lori, actually removed his stomach and intestines, felt along the intestines to make sure there were no other "objects", removed the rock, sutured the stomach back together, put everything back inside, and stapled him up. The sutures will self absorb, the staples will come out in 10 days. He's been sleeping, finally, for the last hour. He's held down water in small doses, and his 2 TBLS of food, and is doing beautifully.

While we were on Bonaire last month, we had placed him in a 10 day in-house training program, so between the initial cost, cost of the training, surgery, regular vet bills, many many toys that he already shredded, we probably have both of our airfare to Bonaire tied up! But our little buddy is a year round joy - not just a week on the island!

Wow Gail... how scary. We've had a run of puppies eating what they shouldn't lately, too. Fortunately all have turned out as happily as yours. And yes... one of them was a rock, only she did it twice in 4 months!!! (Bassets aren't the brightest dogs in the world, but they are loveable).

I'm glad he's doing well, but I hope he doesn't continue to live up to his name, LOL!!:-)

Funny thing, he was the second dog that day that the doc operated on for a rock retrieval!

He's getting lots of rest today - doing really well.

Thanks for all the good wishes! :-)

Is that Caymus? He's beautiful. He'll have a twin in a year or so when Chaos fills out and deepens in color.

Is he your wife's companion dog? I know goldens are extra-ordinary! :-)

Yes this is a pic of Caymus, taken last Feb at the beach. It was about 4* that day. Caymus goes swimming year round. He is 7 this year. He cares for my wife with total devotion and love. Caymus is a outstanding friend.

How is Chaos doing?

My wife had to take Caymus to the Vet, seems beach sand got in his eye, again!

Happy to here Chaos is doing so well. Goldens recover very fast it seems. When Caymus had the cancer removed from his leg, it was under a week and he wanted to play. So we played.
