My husband’s step-brother is the Captain of the Ocean Survey Vessel BOLD. It is an EPA ship that takes scientists all over to do research and testing. It is 244’ long and has a beam of 43’. This last weekend the OSV BOLD was here in Portland, and I was fortunate to get to go on a 4 hour cruise of the Portland Harbor. So I thought I would share some of my pictures. Scroll over the picture to get a description......

Wow...cool pics LaDonna. How much fun was it? I would love to go out on an EPA vessel. Do you know what they were testing for that day? Thanks so much for sharing.

hey, Tribs.....it was a blast! They really weren't testing for anything on this day. They were doing functional testing.....making sure all of the equipment was working, before they left to do a survey of the Portland dredging dumping ground. They left to start the survey on Saturday and will be done tomorrow. Then I think they are off to Providence (I think) then they are headed into the Pacific via the Panama Canal.

Wow, Ladonna, that is too cool! Add me in to the WAY jealous category. It's always been a dream of mine to go on a research vessel, but I'm afraid I'd get seasick and be miserable!

Thanks so much for the pictures!:-)

It was great fun! and just now reading through my own report, I realized I spelled my brother-in-laws name wrong! It is Jere Chamberlain....duh!!!

Cynde....I am not sure where they are headed....I have their web site....at home....I'll try to remember to post it when I get home this evening!

Becky....one of the EPA people did get wicked seasick....and we only had about 3' ground swells, caused by tropical storm Beryl. (And of course the fog....which makes it hard to look at the horizon.....which makes the seasickness worse)....poor girl!!!!
