Toilet Training!!

Good Morning everyone! Yesterday we decided that it is time to start Quinn on the potty. He is ready, but stubborn. And he doesn't mind getting wet. So I will not be online much if at all next week or so. I hope we can do it (ok, I am already discouraged, but every parent has gone through it!).

I wish everyone a great week and hopefully I can still pop in and out! (Any funny stories would be great!! I am sure I will have a few of my own:-):-)!)

As I never had children of my own I can't go with my personal experiences but I've heard that stickers do well. Get a sticker for every good thing and make it all a big deal and really big fun event.

Good luck Eileen - I'm sure Quinn will do fine. And just remember - this too will pass (no pun intended - well, maybe just a wee one).

Eileen, quickly make an inventory of anything in or near the bathroom that can fit in the toilet and check this list before allowing Quinn to flush:-O

YGM.

No children here either, but I have heard tales of a game where you actually have flushables in the toilet for him to aim at :-)
Okay, maybe that was a frat party!

Good Luck Quinn!!

No children, but have many friends who use Cheerios in the toilet to teach proper aim. :-)

BLUE ICE for something to aim at..Joel will probably like to play as well..

stickers work BUT a bag of small toys {trucks,McD toys,etc} every time he does a good pee.{a good pee is not wetting his pants, doesn't matter where he does it outside in the bushes or inside on the potty} and Bigger toys for the poop part of the training.. Matthew just went through that {he is a bit older but once trained never looked back or had a problem.}
Good luck and if it isn't his time yet just remember , you never see a healthy kid go to school in diapers.. Good luck

Welcome home Freddie!

Joel, Freddie meant it is okay for Quinn to water the bushes, not you. I wish she would have cleared that up a few years ago, might have saved me a court appearance:-O

LOL!! We had a 'good pee' before bed, on the toilet and he went! Right now we have used ice cream as a treat (he loves it) sometimes, but lots of clapping and hugs. If Quinn has an accident on the carpet, he is eager to help clean up.

Now where is that EASY button...:-)

Eileen, good luck. What worked for Kyle was putting a drop of Dawn dish detergent in the toilet and letting him make bubbles. We also used Cheerios, but he didn't like that as well. Kyle was easy because he HATED being wet. Give Quinn lots of hugs for being such a big boy!!

I waited with my kids- especially my son-they were both every day of three years old before they were totally trained!- the BAD part of potty training is suddenly you HAVE to find toilets- no matter where you are. Oh How I missed the ease of having kids in diapers!! (potty training is when my kids STOPPED going to the store with me for awhile. I got really tired of having to abandon the grocery cart while we went to the restroom. I was always suspicious that someone had messed with it while I was gone.)

Hello all! I missed the boat a few times today, what can you do! Tami, I am missing those diapers as we speak! But Quinn is/was ready, my patience hat is on :-) and the sense of humour hat too:-).

Eileen, hope all is going well today with Quinn and his training. :-) My older son only got trained when he sat down on his little potty and it played music when he went. This also signaled him to be able to start and stop and make music. After he got the control part down, he graduated to a big potty with ease. Love those pull ups they have now! Didn't have them back when my oldest was young! Had those material undies and boy we had to buy quite a bit of them! Laundry up the yang yang!

Well, now I have to confess why I think Eileen is one of the best mother's in the world- I didn't toilet train either one of my kids.....I was working full time and the daycare girls took care of it... when they lined everyone up for a potty break before and after naps (and meals and whenever else)- the kids just lined up and did what everyone else was doing. It was great- I just reinforced it at home. (I DO wish that someone in our house....his name rhymes with 'baddy'...had really gone over aiming with our son- we thought that one of the toilets was leaking because someone had perfected peeing between the seat and the bowl so that nothing hit the wall but it all dribbled down the back of the stool and puddled around the bottom- actually to think about it - it really took some precision aiming because for about a year I couldn't tell even if I lifted the seat or left it down that anything had happened. And then he learned to wipe up the top. It was all very strange.
