Ok - I know, I know - there are a zillion cures for this but this year I have it SUPER bad! PBD has hit me like a ton of bricks and other than reading everything possible on BT and looking at the 3 real estate websites for Bonaire and looking at info Bonaire what else can I do to cure my PBD! And this was my 10th time down there - it just felt like home, home, home this time.

Hi Mara! When you find a cure, let me know too!
I have my own place on Bonaire and the last time I was able to go was back in Feb., so my PBD is totally awful too! I find the webcams help a lot, nice to see a part of Bonaire when you cannot be there! :-) My visits this year to Bon have been cut in half due to things out of my control, so really missing it too! They say home is where the heart is and Bonaire sure got mine! :-)

Will you guys please stop it, I have been crying all morning. I have to hold on until mid Jan, think of the pain that I'm feeling.

We all use BT as a crutch. Call it "Mothers Little Helper".

Something in common.

Nice people who understand what we are going through. Tell a friend that you are depressed about not being on Bon and they just start laughing. The Bast....s!

Last night after diner I went down to my wine cellar, sat at the tasting table and opened a bottle of wine that I got at the AWC. I teared up.

Ok, I'm late for my treatment at the Mental Health Clinic.

A good way of lessening the effect is to have your next visit to Bonaire booked before you leave on your first trip. Bob and I have to book our flights so far in advance to get the dates we want at a price we can afford that this happened. Two weeks in June then ten days in October. It doesn't stop PBD but it sure does help:-)

Is it possible to have PBD without ever actually going to Bonaire? When I look at the cams and read everyone's trip reports it makes me feel like I have been there. Someday after kids are raised and money is saved I will get there. I do have a fish bowl with a label on it that says "mom and dads sunny vacation fund". It's not growing fast enough though.

Maybe this will help.

I took this picture in the Ripley's museum in Panama City Beach. We went there after taking the kids snorkeling. When Ashley saw what a shark had done to this man, she said I don't think I will go back out in the ocean right away. Of course after dinner they were back out in the waves again.

The web cams are nice, they do help, but it's like coming home after work to small apartment with just a small table, with one chair, a single light bulb hanging above, you turn on your 14" b&w TV with the rabbit ears. Pop a TV dinner in the oven and watch English soaps, eating your Salisbury Steak TV diner until you fall asleep.

Lisa...yes, call it pre-Bonaire depression. :-( PBD is bad no matter what the "P" stands for.

Jerry...that was just depressing. :-( :-(

I love looking at the webcams BUT I agree with Jerry they just aren't the substitute that I need them to be. I would love to have my next trip booked before the first one is over but that doesn't work out very well for us either - it's hard to know exactly WHEN we are able to go. Let's see - when the kids leave the nest - well at least they are both gone away to school THEN maybe we can do it.

Pssst Jerry, how does one fit a wine cellar and wine tasting table into a small apartment? And I thought you only ate spam?

Top of pagePrevious messageNext messageBottom of page Link to this message  By Mara - Now in TN (Experienced BonaireTalker - Post #536) on Thursday, July 6, 2006 - 3:35 pm:     Edit PostPrint Post

I think the wine cellar and wine tasting table either shares space or doubles as the SPAM cellar.

My Dear Tribs, we are talking about a real small cellar here, only holds one bottle. What do you think Salisbury Steak is made from, SPAM!!!!!!!!

Salisbury Steak TV Diner:

Ground SPAM in a brown looking substance.
Powered potato's with that brown stuff on top.
Green things.
One 2"x2" blob of apple something crisp.

No plates needed.

I do eat a lot of SPAM, but once a week I go nuts, I buy a Salisbury Steak TV Diner, and I eat it with a glass of Mad Dog 20/20. Call me a party animal if you want?

You see Mara....this is how to deal with PBD. You get Jerry going and we all have a good laugh. :-)

Jerry...I prefer the chicken TV dinners with cherry something and yellow something (I think corn?).

Happy Anniversary! Treat your wife well, she must be a saint to be married to a crazy guy like you. How does she manage to keep a straight face around you? Have a wonderful dinner and please let her order something than the blue plate special or early bird special!

Cool - so are you taking the QUEEN to dinner - isn't that nice. Are you taking her to Dirty Franks? I think that's in Metheun, MA. That sounds like a lovely place.

Hope you have a wonderful dinner reflecting on all the good times in your marriage! 32 years is quite an accomplishment.

Of course, now that I think of it, one way to mitigate the PBD is to work on your own marriage fun....if you know what I mean. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge. :-D Hope the mods don't think that's too racy!

Thanks everyone for the congrads.
We had a nice night, went over to the IHOP on RT 102. The little woman had a tuna melt, I went for the double burger. Washed it down with large 7UP's. What a night!

And Jerry, you're obviously quite the smart one to have 32 years.... way to go and oh, so many more!!

Hey- I have MADE Spam sushi!! I found it in a great Hawaiian cookbook. My family was appalled and wouldn't touch it but I didn't think that it was too bad. Maybe when I have put in 32 years of hard labor my family will appreciate it more. I salute those of you that have made it!

To get back to the original purpose, here's some diversion. This is the slideshow from Palm Beach. It's fairly large 14 megs and will not run on a Mac. Download from site.

Enjoy.

I'll pass on the food, thank you.

However, the slideshow was great!

I sort of thought the soapfish, never having seen one before and before I looked at the title, looked like it should be called a skunk-fish.
