I'm home for the day - no bribes today are getting me out of here. Been a busy week with all the work/docs/shopping/gardening.

tasting

My Momz Soup - brown stew beef with onions and garlic in oil - add two big cans of tomatoes, couple more onions, half a bunch of celery, leaves and all.

garlic celery

Fill pot with water and simmer and stir for three or four hours. Add some salt, oregano, beef boullion, if you want it. I sometimes add a can of tomato sauce if I want to thicken the broth. Voila. Add 8 - 12 oz macaroni or ditalini and serve when tender.

Fresh Celery Day celery

Celery is part of the parsley family. It was first grown as a medicinal plant, then (during the Middle Ages) as a flavoring. Finally, people started using it as a food - mainly for soups and salads. It's a good source of vitamin C and potassium, but here's the best part... It takes more calories to chew a piece of raw celery than you get from eating it!

Celery raw is good for the jaw,
but celery stewed is more easily chewed.

soup

Barbara - I'm a big soup/stew/sauce maker in the winter and griller in the summer. Casseroles, too for BoxerBob. (I always make enough soups, casseroles and spaghetti sauce for a couple meals. I ain't DUMB.) None of those things takes much prep and there's so little precision involved that I can handle it. :)

Nothing like Potstickers for me! LOL

pup Freddie - I had to opt for the non-animated sort of celery. Guess there isn't much call for dancing celery. I crunch it sometimes with salt and have to share with the boxers - they eat apples, pickles, tomatoes, carrots. When I'm chopping veggies, they are avid beggars. When they were pups I gave them carrots to gnaw - cheap, and it won't hurt them.

Awww - I love the peregrines. We have a similar nestbox in downtown Springfield, but no birds this year, so far. First time we've missed them in 15 years or so. Hope they show up!

book

The hilarious thing about it - is that it's the tallest building downtown - with a Sheraton and offices inside and people coming out the front door are often pelted with starling heads. ROFL.

Sorry. I mean, that is so sad and disgusting. (*Snort* *Guffaw*)
