Pecan Nut Day nuts

Pecans are tree nuts that grows naturally in North America. They were first cultivated by Native Americans who used them as a major food source. The name "pecan" is a Native American word of Algonquin origin that means "nuts requiring a stone to crack." Both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew pecan trees in their own gardens.

Honey I'm HOME!!!! Good first dive of the year.. Hate cleaning up after!!!
p

Dive report, April 14,2002

Met Gabe ,my buddy for the day, at the Shinnecock Bridge at 9:30am. Got dressed in dry suit,{my weight belt shrunk over the winter..lol} Entered water at 9:50am. 12 other divers on site as well.{they didn’t go in till about 20 minutes later}Current still on the incoming tide.{this is a good thing as long as you know it}. Checked out various pipes for signs of Lobsters..{lots of signs..NOT HOME} Saw lots of anemomes{anemoi} and a mixed assortment of Nudibranch eggs. A couple of small Bagalls and some healthy conch. The blue mussels were in various stages of development, and it should be a good year for them. The spider crabs were out in force, and also the green crabs used as bait to catch tauhogs{Blackfish}. 28 feet 30 minutes 44 degrees F.
First time I was actually DRY and WARM in a dry suit. Yippee!!!!
We didn't actually nab the lobster, but a friend did and gave it to us...1-1/2 pounds.. Makes a nice lunch!!!!

Cynde, Was it you who said they were doing kelp reforesting. When do you start.

Hi Holly! Hi Freddie and Cynde! It's so nice out here I've been out back with BoxerBob - we fertilized all the waterlilies and pickerelweed and irises and reeds in the pond and watched the frogs climb out into a frogpile and bask - until Princess poked them with her nose. I don't know who jumped higher - the frogs or the dog! Had a garter snake come out to bask on the smaller upper pond, too.

crusty

Freddie - sounds like your dive was great - lots of critters - including lunch!

yes holly, that was me. the project (through Orange County Coast Keeper) has already begun (growing spores from the reporductive Sporophylls from the kelp blade). They are then put on tiles, and take about 4-6 weeks to see the growth. Some of the tiles are with Planting is supposed to begin the end of this month by the news I get from the Organization.

they have placed 3 eco carts (portable kelp nurseries) with four schools in the area as educational projects, then the kelp grown from those eco carts will be planted at Crystal COve in Laguna Beach.

Here is the link that tells more:

Cynde, I saw a picture of kelp beds being grown for replanting and thought of you.
Rusty how big is your pond? My box pond 4 X 6 on the patio is wonderful we built it to hold us over until we could put in the big pond. That project has been in a holding patern for about 10 years. Never enough T & M (time & money)I also have a couple of old bathtubs in the pasture we use to water the horses I dump all my extra plants in them till I give them away The deer come in and drink from them. Well it's out to the garden for me now. I check back in later. By the way Freddie wish I could go diving too.
