As I had said on the web cam thread, I had to go out to our cabin on Lena Point yesterday. Hmmm, thought I had a picture of the cabin, but guess I don't -- at least not one that I can find quickly.

Our neighbor decided to have some trees cut down between their place and ours. And then went on vacation. I'm not sure what instructions they gave to the tree cutting service, but the cutters clear cut it.

In doing so, they opened up the rest of the woods to the wind, which allowed a tree to blow over.

Fortunately, this one fell away from the house, and the only damage done was the taking down of the main electrical cable coming to our cabin and the cabin on the other side of us. It also damaged the service entrance.

All of that is being fixed now.

Glad that I went out to find that.

Here's my very first ever pano. Shows the view south (on the left) to the north from our yard.

Much less snow there than downtown.

Hey, Dan! Looks absolutely fabulous at your cabin in the woods...well, what's left of the woods, at least! LOL. What a shame....I wonder how the neighbors will react once they return from vacation. Looks divine up there! Carole

I went back to the cabin again yesterday morning to ensure the electricity was back on. Good thing I did. The electrical company was just finishing up. Said everything was a go. Good. Except when I went down to the cabin, there was no electricity inside. Checked all the breakers; opened the electrical service panel; everything okay. Of course, the tree had taken the telephone line down also, so I had to drive 8 miles back to Lorinda's office to call the electrical company.
Drove back out to the cabin to check to ensure we didn't have an inside main breaker (I was sure we didn't, but they wanted me to check). We didn't. Drove back to Lorinda's office to call and tell them that we don't.
They met me out there. Sure enough, there was electricity to the service panel. Opened up the panel (behind the meter that I couldn't get to). Ahha! The electrician, who had repaired the service box, had failed to reconnect the wires. Because this was on the house side of the meter, the electrical company guys couldn't do anything about it (they claimed not to have the screws, anyway). So, we waited until the electrician got there. And, 15 minutes later, we had electricity!
That took me from 9:30 to 3:30. What a day to get something done that should have taken maybe 1.5 hours.
Now to get the telephone company out to hook that line up.

Here's a new pano from yesterday. A clear, but quite cold day and, as you can see, very windy. It was 21F/-6C, but the wind chill was a whole lot colder than that.

Kathy, do we have bears? Of course, we have bears. These are at our house (not the cabin) taken in 2004.

and even little ones. This is Callan trying to be The Man and scare him away.

WOW! Dan those pics are wonderful :-)
I'm guessing that your cat is an indoor only kitty?? We have to make sure ours are in the house between dusk and dawn due to coyotes - you got a whole new ball o'wax :-)

BTW- we just took on a new line and the manufacturer is in Anchorage - he said it -10 degrees yesterday! Brrrrrrrr

All of our cats (3) are indoor/outdoor. They come and go as they wish and we have the inclination to open the door for them. We don't have any pet doors because of what else might come through, either on their own or clamped in the jaws of one of them.

-10? Sounds pretty balmy. Anyone care for a suntan?
