I just found this Snorkeling Guide e-Book at http://store.tropicalsnorkeling.com/bonaire-snorkelingguide.html. The idea of carrying a guidebook as a weightless download on the netbook is very attractive. Has anyone used it? Was it useful? Would you recommend it?

I heard about this e-book as well and just purchased it online. I have only looked through it and on the surface, it looks great. It appears to be pretty detailed information (including pictures) about entry/exit, directions, fish-life, the author's recommendations about snorkeling in general, etc. It seems like good value for the relatively cheap price.

I realize I am a new poster and that looks suspicious since I'm discussing a new product. Though I am a new poster, I have been reading BT for about 6 months while planning our trip to Bonaire for next July. I am in no way affiliated with the people who sell this e-book. The post about it just coincided with my signing up as a BT user.

As I mentioned in a previous post/thread: "I was lucky enough to get hold a preview copy for our trip in August and found it very helpful and current. Their research trip was just this last spring. I have been a fan of their website for a long time, and was nipping at their heels for detailed information on snorkeling locations when they returned."

We were their volunteer guinea pigs to see how the book worked. The value of this book is that it is written for snorkeler's, not divers. Also this was our first time on the island, and we needed direction. The better sites listed have lots of fish and coral and the depths are shallow. We used it to visit numerous sites, and were not disappointed. On our own we went to a few dive sites that were recommended for divers and found deep drop offs, which of course is not great for snorkeler's. Those were outing we could have done without. Should have stuck to the guide. We did make a few suggestions, mostly for their section on being greener visitors. I am eager to hear other opinions as others begin to use it.

Now if they can figure out how to get it on my Kindle...

Susan, I just found your other post. Thanks for the recommendation. Since they say they make corrections and updates as needed, I think I'll wait until just before our trip in Feb. before I download it.

Denise, welcome. You're going to have a great trip!

My husband and I downloaded this e-book and found it very useful and accurate. You can print just the info (no pictures) from a section formatted just for printing and then take that in the car with you for reminders about where to enter each site. We tried most of the recommended sites and appreciated the tips about what to avoid. Even friendly divers sometimes don't understand why a site they found excellent may not be as enjoyable for a snorkeler.
