I'm a snorkeling nut. When we take a 10 day cruise ship I usually have snorkeling planned for every port. Dominica was the one exception... look into Canyoning, its the first time I found an island where the coolest thing was not the reef.

Here's my trip photos if you want to see the Canyoning trip- http://www.panraven.com/mylife/ViewStory.epage?sp=154975&

We had some hard core divers on our trip and they said they thought the scuba was great, but didn't know anything about snorkeling.

Dominica takes a lot of folks over to champagne reef, which has a bunch of bubbles that come up through the earth's crust into the reef... but it looked like volcanic rock, instead of coral.

Have been there several years ago. Great vacation. Most importantly, eat at Sister Sea Lodge in the N near Portsmoth. Fresh fish/lobster served on palm leaves. Best meals I have ever had in my life. Snorkelled Scotts Head S, think Douglas Bay N. Area in front of Picard Beach Cottages was supposedly great by pier, but rough when we were there, so did not attempt it. Any questions, be happy to try to answer, will be away for a few days. Also, rainforest hikes were great. Boiling Lake awesome.

Hi Linda, that would be crazy odds. 99.9% of people we know don't even know what Bonaire is? LOL Or Dominica.

I sent you a email. Drop us a note :)

Diane, Just curious, how did you get to Dominica? It seems like it would take a couple of days by air. Always wanted to go there but the journey just seemed so long that my vacation would be spent traveling to and from as there are no easy way to get there.
Almost seems like it would be best to get on the cruise ship and have them drop you off for a week or two, until they stop there again!

Lee
I don't think you looked very hard . AA has two flights a day from San juan.

Well I checked with Orbitz Mickey, a 3 hour lay over in P.R. still makes the journey 7 hours. I guess I was just spoiled with the less than 4 hours it takes to get to Bonaire.

I believe we took American Eagle from San Juan. Certainly was easier than getting to Bonaire midweek.

Thanks for letting me know Nancy.

I'll try it again, funny but the link is still working on my home page. Maybe just needs to be freshened up.

I agree Dominica was really a stand-out from all the place we've visited.

On Dominica - Get in touch with Alexis (Picard resort has his contact number) and get him to take you to the secret beach. WOW! He will drop you off a a long, long way from shore and you can snorkel in (and out and in and out and in) forever. The most mind blowing snorkeling experience I've had.

Didn't you just love Coco Cottages?
And did you get "Screwed" while you were there? And no folks I'm not talking dirty. LOL
