Does anyone know if it is permissable to snorkel the Salt Pier? Do you still have to get official permission?

Can someone address this - Ann? Bas? Michael?

My assumption is that YES, a permit is REQUIRED.

Anyone ????

Last I heard Salt Pier was closed due to instability from damage Omar did... someone in the know please correct my information if it's wrong.

But I also agree with Dan that any activity (snorkeling vs diving) needs a permit near salt pier.

Carol, the pier is closed to divers, and I would ASSume it is also closed to snorkelers as well. They are currently not issuing any permits. If you had to have a permit prior to snorkel, I would say you cannot snorkel now, and would likely be caught or turned in if you tried to do it without a permit (which you can currently not get)

there were security guards at the pier when we drove by a few hours ago. just two of them...sitting there. we're not sure if they were just doing normal security work for cargill or if they were there to discourage divers and snorkelers from trying to enter.
