I'm looking for those stick-on lenses (DiveOPTX or otherwise) that you just stick to the bottom of the inside of your mask and act like a reading glass insert. If yes, where and how much are they?

Check your local dive shop, most of them carry DiveOPTX or other brands. If your local shop doesn't have them, they will probably know where you can get them. Also there are ads in most of the dive mags for DiveOPTX.

Thanks, Andy & Dave, I can see now that I shouldn't have posted in the middle of the night (couldn't sleep). I wanted to write: I'm looking for those stick-on lenses (DiveOPTX or others) that you just stick to the bottom of the inside of your mask and which then act like a reading glass insert. Are they available on Bonaire? If yes, where and how much are they?

Carib Inn carries them but I am not sure about the price. Somewhere around 22 dollars seems to be what I remember but then again I would not want you to quote me on something from my memory!! I did try a pair once and was not happy with them as they kept coming loose in the water. Finally gave up and got prescription lenses so I could read my gauges and see the little critters.

Thanks Susan, I'll keep it in mind when I try them.

Jerry, are you the REAL bionic man?

Andy & Dave, thanks for the update - I'll not bother to buy them here in Holland then, going out in the terrible weather we're having and probably paying way over the prices on Bon. Here in Holland they're about $60 a pair, with the dollar/guilder so low they can't be more expensive on island.

just a quick tech comment concerning magnifiers...you need to place the stick-ons in the right place on the mask lens to make them usuable. probably should get a second person to "mark" the center of your pupils (on the mask lens) and then center the stick-ons on the mark. i had mine glued in "professionally" but ended up with the stick-ons a bit low in the mask...they are usuable but i really have to look down...a little higher on the lens would have been better...

and remember, water has a (+) diopter...if you have just a little diffuculty seeing up close topside you may be OK underwater with the water's diopter power???

good luck in any case:-)

Alex, $60 a pair???? They are 30 bucks here (without tax). If you really want a pair, I'll buy them for you and get them by mule to you. I have no idea how much they are on island, but don't pay $60!

Oh, and I've seen Jerry use his "focus in and focus out"...amazing! lol!

Bob, thanks for the explanations, but I really need the extra +, as last time I couldn't see what I was photographing. Cynde, The prices in Europe are ridiculous, plus the low dollar makes a difference as well, of course. Very kind and sweet of you to offer tho "mule" them to me, but I'll save you the trouble and buy them on island when if I get there. Michael, thank you for letting me know just where to get them.

OK I admit I am somewhat naive, jokes often go over my head, easily fooled - is the Jerry picture a photoshop joke, or does Jerry really wear glasses outside the mask in the water ?!

OMG. I still think thats the most hillarious picture I've seen yet. But looks like it works. I'm going to give it a try next year. I was going to do it this year but I couldn't find wire rim cheater glasses before our trip.

Have seen at least one person wear cheater glasses on the inside of her mask, looked funny but she said it worked for her. She had a larger mask that the glasses would fit into.

Marge, you have to ask Jerry how he "attaches them" I thought they would fall off but he puts them through the rubber on the strap (I think, or somewhere else on the mask) so they stay on, and he can move them in and out as necessary.

I still have to laugh though...when he came up next to me I really did just about split a gut laughing...he's so cute though:-)

Oh, I will. That has got to be a hoot. I'd be spitting too if I ran into him under water.

I have had the stick ons in my mask for a while. This last trip I actually spend some time seeing if they work, well the answer (for me) is NOT. Worthless and I ripped them out. The diopter of the water seems to be sufficient for the present.
