Who am I to say no to her? So I went back to Bonaire in September and came back with two shots. Hope you like them Carole...

Wow, Henrik! Those are soooo fabulous!!! I'm in love! What expressions on their little faces...you have captured the spirit and personalities of my little Barking Red Lip Blennies! These are terrific shots, Henrik. I'm so glad you were able to return to Bonaire and I do thank you ever so much for thinking of me when you took these....you have absolutely made my very rainy day (8 inches of rain so far) very sunny and bright! Your work is just too wonderful for words.

You know we are ready for more whenever you are ready to load them onto the board. Thank you again, Henrik! I'm in love with these little guys!! Carole

Henrik, you should definitely be doing photography for underwater magazines and books, your work is amazing....

Can you give a little insight on what camera you're shooting with and the lens you're using?

Thanks...Gail

Thank you!

I'm using a Canon EOS 300D, but I think it's named Rebel something in US. The lens on all shots in this thread is Canons 100mm USM Macro. I use two strobes (Sea&Sea YS350) and always use manual settings on both camera and strobes. For bigger fishes I often use a 28-80 zoom, and for wreck/landscape I just bought a 10-22 zoom.

Glad you enjoy the shots - I have at least 50 more to come from the latest trip...

wow! and macro shots ain't easy even above the water;)

so how's the focus with that canon thing and the macro? do you have to use manual focus? does auto focus do a lot of "hunting"

just amazing pics...

Mostly the focus works ok (with some hunting), but when i shoot the smallest animals I sometimes use manual focus.

The following pics are taken with the 10-22 zoom.

One more question Henrik, what U/W housing are you using for this setup? BTW, love your avatar and great website, all your photos are wonderful.

I use a Ikelite housing.
Avatar - do you mean the pict on my profile here, or something at my website?

Henrik, I've looked into the Ikelite and am still having to decide. I have the Sea & Sea for the Canon 10D, but had a flood last year and will either have to get another 10D or upgrade to the Ikelite for the Canon 20D (which I already have). Do you have any problems with the viewfinder, from the info that I've been hearing you can't see all the information inside the viewfinder unless you move your head around?? Just would like some info from someone that's using one.

The avatar on this Bonaire website...I like.

Gail

The avatar is taken a late night in Amsterdam on the airport. I am desperate and drinks a lot of coffee to stay awake when it is time to board the plane to Bonaire...

Ok, there is better viewfinders than Ikelites, but I think it works ok. I don't see all information, but I don't think I miss a lot. I don't have to see the info on the display since I only shoot in manual mode.

A good thing with the housing is that you can see if there is any water inside. I have had some water in this housing, but it was no problem. Just hold it in a safe position an abort the dive. A major flooding would show itself directly when you take it under the surface, so you have time to stop before a disaster. I have seen small leaking in alu-housing kill a camera before the leak-alarm went off.

But I don't think the important thing is what camera or housing I use. To know your equipment and boyancy, and have a buddy with extreme patience is more important.

Henrik, I agree with you completely on buoyancy, knowing your equipment and a patient buddy. I'm pretty fortunate there since my husband shoots video, except we're usually shooting in two totally different directions, but it works well for both of us. Great pictures with your new lens.

Bubbles to ya'
Gail
