Steve, if you have a windows machine, roll your mouse over the picture and find that Henrik has named them by sight in the little popups (unless he just happens to have names for the fish that correspond to resorts!)

Yes, they are all from Bonaire. I try to name them after the sight, but my memory may not be 100% now six months after the trip.

I did most of the dives at Buddy´s Reef and still have a lot left to take pictures of when I return in september.

Now to one of my favourite type of fish. To bad that there is only one kind of hawkfish at Bonaire - the Redspotted Hawkfish.

Henrik, Everyone has used just about every word to describe the wonder of your photos. They are absolutely amazing!! You should definitely send them to National Geographic. With prints like these Bonaire is bound to get a full spread in the magazine.... and you could make a bundle... of course then you would get too busy to share with your friends on Bonaire Talk.

I have read so much about the decorator crab. I believe that your first 2 photos are of a decorator crab. Do I have that right? Thank you so much for taking the time to share your prints! They have brought me such joy (and obviously everyone else too)!!

How long have you been taking underwater photos... What sort of training do you have?
You are now the official photo guru to Bonaire!~!!

Thank you again!!
Dana

Dana,
You make me blush! It would be a dream to get a photo in just any magazine, since this is only a hobby for me. NG is miles higher than that.
If anyone of you here know someone who could be interested in publishing some pictures - let them know I´m easily bought... ;-)

Yes it´s a decorator crab, a Southern Teardrop Crab (Pelia rutunda) I think. Correct me if you know better.

I´ve been diving for ten years and taking photos half the time. Bonaire (two trips) is my only diving in warm waters, so it´s paradise for me. The only training is my own trial and error.

Henrik..at least enter some of the scuba magazine or Bonaire magazine photo contests..we( the BT jury) would agree they are award winners...do you have others from other dive destinations ?

Ok, if I see any contest I´ll try. Sweden is a small country with only one diving magazine, so if you see any suitable contest or magazine, please let me know.

About the redlip blenny. That´s one of the fishes than I´m going to try to get a good shot of this september. They are both shy and fast... Corals are easier to shot. Like these:

Henrik, I can't wait to see your Blenny when you return in September. I will have a little "talk" with the Blennies when we are down there in a few weeks....I'll let them know you are a good guy and will make them gorgeous without looking too pompous!

Blennies crack me up because they always seem like they are "barking" at me when I study them...little heads always bobbing up and down trying the scare me off. They are so cute. I don't "stress" them out...they automatically start barking! Carole

Good Morning Henrik,
I have been searching photo contests and found tons of entries that do not hold a candle to yours.

You could go right to the source with NG's photo contest
http://www.nationalgeographic.com/traveler/pcontest/intro.html

or

just do a Google search for under water photo contest

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=underwater+photography+contest&btnG=Google+Search

Let us know which contest you enter and I am sure we will all go to the site and vote for you:-)

Your photos are spectacular!!!

Dana

Henrik
I was so impressed with your pics that I sent the link to my son who is a professional photographer. He seldom has much to say about anything I have to show him, guess I haven't reached a level he can appreciate yet. Anyway I have copied his response below.

Those were very cool shots. The color and contrast are perfect and there is virtually no debree in the water. It looks like he took them all in his bath tub

You are sooooo good to us, Henrik!! Good luck with the entries and I certainly hope you can land a spread in the NG!! That would be the best ever. That was always a dream I had, too...to work for National Geographic's photo department taking pics....what fun that would be...

Please keep us posted as to your entries and contacts, OK? Thanks again for sharing your wonderful work with us. Carole

I think that all the nice words about photos have already been said, so I will not repeat all of them. Just one: AMAZING

I would like to say that your work has inspired me to attempt to take better underwater photos when I snorkel. You have an eye for composition, and clarity of your shots is superb.

I noticed that all of your shots have a black border, so I assume some PhotoShop work has been done. Some questions for you.

1) Can you reveal the type adjustments you are typically doing on the photos?
2) What photo editing package are you using?
3) Are you applying any filters to make the shots so clear?

Please keep the posts coming…

I would like to see a select few individuals that have permission to upload pictures beyond the 50K limit. I would suggest that Henrik Jonsson is one of the individuals who could exceed the limit.

It is so nice to see larger, high quality images.

Henrik has a web site displaying his photos. Check his profile.

Not sure the recent Bonaire photos are displayed there yet, but plenty more where these came from.

"By Henrik Jonsson (BonaireTalker - Post #28) on Tuesday, May 10, 2005 - 5:53 am:
Thanks Dan

I usually shot in JPEG (highest quality) with some colour correction in PhotoShop 7. Mostly I use curves with black and white points. For shots with only natural light i often use RAW.

Both camera and srobes are in manual mode without any other light meter than the cameras own. I use the information in the histogram to adjust the exposure during the dive. In the prewiev picture on the back of the camera I can see if I got the fish the way I wanted it, but not the exposure or focus. "

Thanks Carol,
I also use UnSharp Mask on the pics before upploading them (radius 0.3). No filter on the camera.

I will start a new thread with some shots later today...
