Arrived in the blowing rain at 5 AM today. SO glad to be here. I love the island already. Had a wonderful experience grocery shopping! I actually found some chicken to make for supper.

where did you go for groceries? Caltimera is in town and the wharehouse is towards the airport. Indeed you will love the island. If you get a chance, visit the donkey sanctuary and bring some carrots and apples with you. they will love you for it.

Monday morning has me apologizing for my original grocery store comment. Now realize that I was trying to grocery shop on a Sunday and at very small places.

Contrary to most reports, we do have chicken and turnkey and duck and pheasant (ok that may be a little bit of a stretch). Years ago, we only had chicken legs in the grocery stores! I actually celebrated when I found my first whole chicken (no, not in the neighbors yard...

On the island for the first time myself. Caltimera is pretty steep as far as prices go for basic stuff(beer, etc.). Look at the small chinese grocery stores and such for much lower prices.

Jeremy, the reason prices are high is because everything has to be shipped in and will only increase as fuel prices continue to climb.

Nestor, I have no doubt that is the reason. Just saying, out of town, the grocery stores are cheaper that the one in town. I don't know how the locals can afford some of the prices, though. Had a great time, hate to leave tomorrow. We will be back. East coast was awesome.

Jeremy, we stayed at Denlaman and stopped at the chinese store just up the road. We found no real substantial difference in prices (e.g. bottles of coke for $11) not really a deal. Didn't make it to the store in Rincon this time, so I can't comment on that. Glad you had a good time. My wife and I are already planning a return visit in the spring and are slowly recovering from Bonaire withdrawl.

CHEERS

We paid $2.23 for 2 liter coke at warehouse. $11 is way out of line...

Ron, that is so true. We stuck with water and crystal lite pouches we packed from home.

Are you sure the 11 wasn't in guilders? Anyway, we found them for about $2.50 US as well.

I am so sorry that I even started this thread in the negative way that I did. We have actually had good experiences in grocery stores that were not available to us on the Sunday afternoon when we arrived.
We are north of town & find all we need at the Chinese grocery store. We especially love the packets that can be added to meats and have stir-fried most of the nights since we arrived(Nov. 14).

We are thankful that although it has rained(sporadically) just about every day since we arrived, we have been able to snorkel every day. Our favorite so far is 1000 steps, but every place we have been has shown a different beauty. We have seen a ray & many turtles. i saw an eel fight for it's breakfast & win.

Before we go home we want to go to Klein Bonaire for a day.

Our day with Dee on the Woodwind was fantastic.

We tried windsurfing & I had the "pleasure" of watching my husband stand up & sail the very first time he tried while I took an hour & 1/4 AND an extremely wide board to even stand up for more than a few seconds. All those on shore were probably happy with the "performance" that I gave them. :)

We have eaten at 4 or 5 places now & seem to enjoy going at lunch time to places that serve local cuisine.

Most of all we just enjoy the relaxed, peaceful, super-friendly nature of the island.

Thank you Bonairians for sharing your lovely island with us.

FYI ... coca cola and other soft drink are imported from 2 different countries .. Curacao and Venezuela... you will pay a lot more for the imports from curacao .. you can tell the origin by the color of the caps .. red..Curacao - white Venezuela.
