OK, a belated trip report, due to "technical difficulties" with my laptop. But, thanks to Michael Gaynor at Chat n' Browse, finally got to the world.

Arrived Saturday afternoon on Delta from CLE, everything went perfect, we were even a little early !! Met Meeeechelle, her friend DM candidate extraordinaire Marion and Jack Dempsey for dinner at Bobbejans. Great ribs, etc. as expected. Bobbejans is closed next weekend, so went back again on Sunday night ... another great meal.

Sunday hit Something Special, The Lake, Corp. Meiss and night dive on house reef at Bonaire Oceanfront Apts. Seeing a lot more squid than I can recall the last fewe trips.

Went out on the zodiac with Bonaire East Coast Diving on Monday with Meeeechelle & Marion. Two great dives to Funchi's Reef (eagle rays, turtles) and White Hole (tarpon, turtles). Bas H did a great job.

Went diving on Tuesday with Bas Noij's partner Willem. He was GREAT !! Yellow Sue ... 2 frog fish !! Then The Lake ... 2 sea horses !! Made my wife's trip. She has been wanting to see frog fish forever.

Tuesday night, did the UV night dive with Willem at . Try it if you can ... it is really different. The coral looks so different with their blue light & mask shield. We had two large tarpon following us so close, I pushed the big one out of my way. Really a cool dive.

OK, spousal unit says time for dinner, so will add more later.

Sorry, the UV night dive was at Something Special.

Also, viz varying from good (40-50 ft) to great (70-80 ft). My definitions ... I normally dive in a quarry in Ohio !!

Willem and Bas are great. We have dove with before and had wonderful dives. The dive spot Yellow Sue I am not familiar with. We have just about given up on a frog fish pic. without some help.Maybe in Nov. Willem or Bas can help out with the album. Thanks for the info.

So, how much fun is too much fun........

I'm so happy you had fun!

Thanks for taking me back!

PS, our at home viz, on a good day, is 20'!

So, I too, don't get the "reduced viz" moans.

Mike -- sorry about that, fat fingers. The frog fish were spotted at Yellow Sub in about 25 ft of water right at the top of the reef on coral heads just north of one of the moorings. We entered the water south of Yellow Subs pier.

Good frog fish hunting !!

Thanks for the trip report, KOB. I must be way out of the loop. I've never heard of UV diving before. Sounds really cool!

Nick -- you're not out of the loop. I only just heard about it before this trip on their website www.vipdiving.com

As I learned this week, works like this ... you use a LED dive light that only throws blue light. You wear a shield over your mask lens that filters out blue, so you only see the non-blue light reflected back by the corals (so not truly UV, but similar effect ... think back to your college days with black lights).

For example, some corals that are green during the day (reflecting sunlight) are irridescent red using the blue LED light.

Worth doing at least once if you get the chance. We'll probably include it in store-sposored group trips to Bonaire in the future.

We also got lucky enough to see a lion fish on that same night dive !!

Thanks for the web site, KOB. Like they say, certification is just a license to learn.
Never thought I'd see the day when you could see a lion fish on Bonaire!
Nick
