I don't know how they do it.... but they have the coldiest beer on the island... and some of the bestiest food, and the niceiest people.... yup

Hmm, I see that most of your stuff is so macro that you don't really have to worry about backscatter, but some of them (very first one for instance) are at a bit of a distance. Is the diffuser taking care of it?

eric,
diffuser takes care of most of it - but I was not using a macro setting - i took all the shots in large/superfine format - got as close as I could (my camera will do raw but I've not used that yet) the shots in large format/super fine end up being between 4.5 and 7MB per picture - and then I cropped some of the "extra" off - the ones that wern't cropped were the easter bunny, green pseudochromis, rock beauty and file fish right after it, rock beauty in the sponge and the juvenile french angel (the one before the easter bunny)...

I took over 600 pictures and have 90 that I would consider good enough to print and save

on our first or second visit to rose inn on this trip my beer was actually frozen. can't get much coldiester than that. the other times i had frost on the bottle but the beer wasn't frozen.
