Just returned from our first Bonaire trip. Great time diving.

Very impressive pics and I enjoyed reading a bit of your blog. I always come back from a trip with all kinds of plans for a for realz trip report with pics and everything and then life gets in the way. I always have to appreciate people that actually make the time to share their vacation thoughts and experiences.

Great website Lowrey!!

Very detailed report on Bonaire. Pictures were great too. Judging from the quantity of pics you had on your other trips on your site though, you probably still have a bunch to add. Can't wait to see them all!!

I noticed on your GC pics you must have stayed at The Reef (I recognized the bar). I'm an owner at Morritts. You also use Ocean Frontiers. That's TJ in the pic with you guys. And the Lighthouse is one of my favorite restaurants. I'm heading back down in 6 weeks.

Thanks Larry, nice site.
Ok, you stumped me, pic #4, what kind of moray is this? Yje closest I can come u with is the Fimbriated Moray http://www.visualdiving.com/gallery.php?id=vd_gc01 http://www.bubblevision.com/underwater-pictures/burma-by-night/pages/fimbriated-moray1.htm

But, this doesn't make sense...

Brenda,

I'm not sure what kind of moray that is. It was quite small, only about 1 and a half inches thick. I'm working on the identification. Perhaps someone on the board will help. I agree that it does have some resemblance to the fimbriated moray but I was clearly in Bonaire, not the indo-pacific!

Thanks for checking out my website.

Lowrey

Exactly, that's why it didn't make sense to me. I meant no implication that you didn't find it on your Bonaire trip. Apparently, some identify it also as a yellowhead moray. The yellowhead looks so different to me.
I knew it was small, great perspective in your composition btw, as is the fimbriated. The only thing I can think, this is a very popular aquarist prize for their tanks, that is, till they start hunting the tank. They then try to give them away, mostly unsuccessfully, as evident by the numerous hobbyist forums, and some admit to releasing them.

One other thing, your pic #28, stunning!

Thanks Brenda,

I'm not sure which #28 you are referring to. I need to do a better job of labeling my photos.

Loved your photos; thanks for sharing! Tried to read your blog but that white on black is so hard on my old eyes (even magazine articles that are light lettering on dark backgrounds bother me). But it is a very sweet website! What a great way to spend spring break with your son. Our most memorable dive trips are those that we took our kids along.

Great pictures!!!!:):) Thanks for sharing.

The moray in question (pic 4) might be a reverse phase goldentail? I've seen some that were more yellow than brown, but this one is pretty extreme. It's a thought.

Ok Lowrey, this eel id is driving me mad! All my research keeps saying the same thing.
Perhaps you could send your photo to P. Human at reef.org?
He may be interested indeed....

Bill,

That was on the Galapagos Aggressor. Our LDS had set up the trip with initial planning almost 3 years earlier. Great diving (although challenging conditions). Amazing land and sea wildlife.

The week I was there the dive conditions could not have been better. We had calm seas and just great weather.
I too was on the Aggressor fleet, Aggressor 1, every time we dove we ran into whale sharks--it sure screws up your diving expectations---lol

Bill,

I know what you mean. I remember the first dive when we saw hammerheads and all the excited talk afterward. By the end of the trip we couldn't get excited unless there were 300 hammerheads. My dive buddies and I are having trouble deciding where to go for our next "big" trip. Any suggestions? I'm think something like Truk....

Have you thought about the Sea of Cortez, it's my next big trip. The name of the ship is Solmar V.
I've heard nothing but rave revues about Socorro Island, at certain times of the year you'll see 5 different types of whale sharks! There are Hammerheads, to many to count Hammerheads--just like the Galapagos!

You fly into Cabo, and then sail over night to Socorro island. It's very similar to when we headed for Wolf and Darwin.

You can't beat the price either, just google "Solmar V,Sea of Cortez"

Just think no jet lag and from what I've been told solmar's crew really has it together.
AND it's a whole hell of a lot cheaper than the Galapagos.

Some friends of mine just returned from a dive trip to the Sea of Cortez. They were on The Rocio Del Mar liveaboard. From the early reports they had a fantastic trip. Sea Lion, nudibranchs, sharks. Even surface sightings of Orcas (wouldn't really want to be up close and personal with those guys under water).
