I know that there are not many beaches on the island but are there some hotels with a beach? Our ideal vacation is to sit on the beach for 7 days without laptop or blackberry.Enjoy snorkeling and will rent a car for a few days. Not looking for a five star but not bare bones either.

My vote would be the Divi Divi. The snorkling is great each way you go. I would snorkle down to the Plaza where the inlet comes in. Very nice and clear. Also you can go the other way to the pier which is great. Are you the Cheryl that was there with us in 2006? Kent Gerber

Cheryl- if you want the ultimate in relaxing you might look at Sorobon- which is on Lac Bay. It IS a clothing optional resort but the beach is wonderful - and if you have a car rented you can still get everywhere. They have a wonderfully appointed kitchenette so you can cook- or there is a restaurant onsite- or we go out to eat often. Very unhurried, very relaxing. In fact, this last time during our stay at Captain Don's (which was also a very nice apartment- not on the water but very private) we took a few days off to stay out at Sorobon 'cause we love it so much.

Hi Cheryl, we just got back from 2 weeks at Sorobon. It is truly the MOST relaxing place on Bonaire and perfectly fits your description of "Not looking for a five star but not bare bones either". The chalets have well-equipped kitchenettes, the resort has a good bistro-style restaurant, and they run almost daily free shopping trips to Cultimara supermarket. The beach is just lovely, the other guests are wonderful, the staff are excellent. On-site snorkelling in Lac Bay can be superb. You should be aware that the beach area is mandatory naturist, but I can guarantee that you wouldn't care a jot after 5 minutes there. The only drawback is that it's pricey - but I don't know anywhere like it in the Caribbean.
