Hi, I just realized that we're leaving Saturday and I haven't done any research. My husband, the diver, made all his arrangements but but not me. We're staying at the Divi. I do a little snorkeling, like to walk, sightsee etc. Any suggestions about what I could do alone or good tours to take? I know this was most likely covered a lot but I'm having problems locating it. Thanks!

Jan, Why don't you try "Discover Scuba" at the Divi scuba shop? What they do is take you in the pool and teach you how to use the scuba gear and when you are comfortable with it they take you out to the top of the house reef and let you expereance what the rest of us enjoy so much. It is not expencive and that dive can count as one of your open water cert dives if you decide to get a C card. All you have to know is how to swim... Ron

ps you will never be bored again!!!

Ron, that's a little insulting buddy to insinuate she would be bored unless she learns to dive -- and I mean that in the friendliest way my friend!

Jan, the Divi is close to town, so it would be fun to walk into town for lunch or dinner to walk around and sightsee or do a little bit of shopping. And I do mean a little bit because I think you can probably see it all in about an hour!

If you have a vehicle, you can go lots of other places and get some good pictures if you enjoy that. Take some good books and sit on the dock in a hammock/chair/thingy and just watch the water... it is very relaxing.

My husband is not a diver, and I am, and he truly enjoyed himself as much (or more!) than I did.

That being said, yes of course Ron is right, the Discover Scuba would be fun but if you aren't really that interested, it takes up a bit of time if you decide to get certified on your trip.

Have lots of fun, be sure to visit the cams and post a trip report, and WELCOME TO BONAIRE TALK! Or as Freddie says, 'thanks for chosing Bonaire Talk'. :-)

Have a great evening!

Welcome to BT, Jan!:-)

You could contact the Mangrove center and do the kayak tour with or without an added snorkeling trip. I did the trip without and it was really fun. It's also very informational. Don't forget the Woodwind (catamaran) for either snorkel trips or I believe they do a sunset trip:-)

There are also birdwatching tours (and forgive me, I'm not sure who they are run through, but the Divi will be able to hook you up) and I believe there is a caving tour. There's also the Donkey Sanctuary and/or Animal Shelter to visit.

Hope this helps, and have a wonderful time:-):-):-)

Snorkel. We've gone to Bonaire 7 or 8 times now and I love it even if I don't dive but my husband does. When my husband & his buddies take off I go with them & snorkle around while they dive. I really like and feel safe snorkling by myself off Den Lanmen, Carib Inn & Divi, Plazza and the stretch kinda across from airport has some great spots. There are always people around these places. Makes my husband feel less guilty about diving if he knows I'm having fun snorkling. I've gone to 1000 steps with them but kinda spookey if you're all by yourself. I stay at the condo by the pool and read with those kind of trips. I like being the only one there while they're off diving . I have peace & quite to read. Take a Dee trip to Klien it is great! Book situation is fabulous on Bonaire. All the hotels/condo's etc have book exchange, just ask if you aren't staying there but I've never been said no to. Go have a massage while he's diving. Shopping while limited is fun. We go every September/October so I use my free days to do all my Xmas shopping.

Snorkeling is good in Bonaire no matter which resort you stay at. I am a fan of the waterfront rooms at the Divi Flamingo. They have an activities desk for tours and such. The resort is a ten minute walk to town and the snorkeling there is awesome! They have a cement pier that tons of fish life in it. There is a little sunken boat just to the right of the pier in about 15 feet of water that is really neat too as well as under there southern most dock. The Woodwind also sails from the Divi which is an added convenience.
The Woodwind is a trimaran that does sail and snorkel trips with unlimited drinks and lunch included. It does one stop at Kline where you usually see turtles and then another stop at Andrea, Pietre Pillar or Small Wall. It is a really fun day.www.woodwindbonaire.com I also would suggest doing guided snorkels with Renee from www.reneesnorkeltrips.com. She is incredible and is very reasonably priced. I call her eagle eyes. She find so much and knows where a lot of the little critters live. Instead of renting a car, I usually do a guided with Renee or sail on the Woodwind in the mornings and around the resort in the afternoons. Otherwise you would need a car to get to various sites.
You might also want a visit to the donkey sanctuary.Lake Gotomere and Seru Largo are two spots on the island not to be missed! You will love it in Bonaire!
