My two sons (13+16) and my husband and I just returned from Bonaire. We had a fantastic time.
The week went by so fast we could hardly believe it.

Traveling was long- but fine. We traveled 3 hours by bus to Boston- then Boston to St. Thomas- then St. Thomas to San Juan- then San Juan to Bonaire. About 15 hours total but there were no delays and the bags got there no problem. Coming back was quicker- we miraculously got on the 10:00AM flight to Boston out of San Juan(we were originally scheduled for 3:20 PM- a 6 hour wait) and were in Boston by 12:30PM. Home by 4:00.

We stayed at Lighthouse Beach Resort #32. Plenty of space- nice pool. We ate breakfasts and lunches in the townhouse and then went out for dinners. This worked out great. We ate at the weekly Windsurf BBQ (great!), Patagonia (great!), Bobbijans (great!), Rum Runners (our least favorite), Cactus Blue (great!). The best meal, and fabulous time, however, was the Samur Thai dinner sail. Expensive- but it was wonderful.

My younger son and I just snorkel- my older boy and my husband dive. They did an underwater photo course through Toucan diving and had a fabulous time. My son just finished a beautiful DVD of underwater pictures with Bob Marley in the background- he'll send it to relatives and show it to friends. He is so proud of it.
We snorkeled alot- went to Klein Bonaire one afternoon, snorkeled with Renee which was great, visited the Donkey sanctuary which was really fun- went on a Windjammer snorkel sail which we loved. We saw turtles, eels, flounders- so many different fish I can't name them (but my son could!). He saw a seahorse.

All in all we had a wonderful time. We felt safe on the island- we took all the precautions recommended. No problems anywhere. We can't wait to go back. My younger son will get certified next time.

Thanks for everyone's help recommending everything. It was just fantastic.

Cindy, nice report. So glad you enjoyed the island and had such a great time. Isn't it wonderful to see your kids enjoy the sealife as much as you do?:-)

The snorkel sail, was it on the Woodwind? I've never heard of the Windjammer snorkel sail. there is a wreck, Windjammer (very deep) off BOPEC.
