Can anyone share one of their shore dive logs from a computer download? I am heading to Bonaire at the end of the month and I am curious on what the entry and dive look like. I have read a lot about the dive locations and some say they start at 15ft and go down to 130ft. Just curious and trying to visualize a dive before I get there.

Thanks in advance...

Adam, I don't have access to my dive profiles from Bonaire right now. I post them tomorrow morning, tonight I'll be busy creating a new profile off Cape Ann, Ma. (translation, I diving tonight).

Cecil,

Nice profiles and display. Which dive computer did you use, and which software to convert to your log? Thanks.

A Suunto Vyper wrist mount. The above are screen captures from the Suunto Dive Manager program.

Cecil, I'm curious and a bit surprised - do you not do safety stops for dives of less than 100', or does your computer not record them for some reason?

Nice Cecil, never tried doing that with my Suunto. I am going to have to give it a shot when I get back to the home computer.

Adam, looking at Cecils profiles, he likes to head on down the drop off to deeper water. When we dive Bonaire we rarely go below 40 ft which is were the reef profile changes from a gentle, slow grade of maybe 4 or 5 degs to a very obvious 60 deg or better drop to deeper water. You can't miss the transition. Where you stay in the water column is up to you. My profiles tend to look like Cecils dive 11, just shift the max depth up to 40-45 ft.

These are all shore dives if I did not mention that. Instead of a safety stop we would hang out in the flats and on some dives the time was set by how long it took to swim across the flats. I'm surprised no one gave me a hard time about going into deco, this happen twice. Both times at the bow of the Hilma Hooker. I have to admit waiting out a deco obligation on the coral flat of Bonaire is a pleasant experience.

Cecil, or that nobody gave you a hard time about going into deco and STILL not bothering with a safety stop?
It's all in the last thirty feet. When I look at my computer readout, only at ten feet does it show all the tissue groups offloading.I have put the cursor at ten feet, so you can see in the tissue loading box that all groups are offgassing at that depth. Going a foot or two deeper will put one of the groups to the right side of the box into the red, ingassing zone.
do a darn safety stop, we'd like to keep you around a while

You'll have to trust me that the unseen cursor is at the ten foot depth part of the dive timeline.

I use a Suunto Vytec computer also, it has a recommended 3 minute safety stop whenever the diver dives below 33 feet. It starts the 3 countdown when the diver ascends above 20 feet. It also doesn't apply a penalty if you blow the safety stop off.

It also has a manadatory stop built in if the ascent rate is exceeded. If this ascent rate safety stop is blown off the coumputer will shorten the next dive NDL.

I personally use the rule any dive less than 100 feet gets a 5 minute safety stop be between 10 and 15 feet. Any dive over 100 and less than 130 gets minimum 8 minutes between 10 and 15 feet.

Can't be too safe!

Seb,

What type computer do use? I like that graph and loading chart.

John, I use an Aladin Air Nitrox with the DataTrak software. On a liveaboard years ago they advised doing one minute of safety stop for every ten feet of depth of the dive which I try to do, so 90' = 9 minutes. Being as we had a diver on the boat who got bent, we all decided this was a great idea. I am also in favor of swimming safety stops, I was trained to do them by my instructor and subsequent data indicates moderate activity enhances outgassing during a safety stop. Here's an improved image

a better idea
