We arrive Sunday and have not seen new info on Mosquitos. Are they still in a feeding frenzy mode or have they been sated?

Recommendation needed on place to rent Jeep/car for the week. We'll be at the Sand Dollar.

Thanks ... abe and gail

Check with the office at Sand $, if they don't have rental available they will give you some good advice on who to use.

I rented from Budget back in September and had a good experience. In shopping for a rental car, look carefully at the optional insurance. With the petty theft on the island you will probably want the extra insurance but read the fine print closely. The deductible amounts vary between rental companies and you could be in for a nasty surprise if you don't understand on the front end what you are signing up for.

Enjoy your trip. I'll be back in May and can hardly wait.

This is a follow up to my previous message regarding auto rental and optional insurance. Just found another thread on this board that tells you all you want to know and more.

For 20 years I've rented vehicles from many companies on Bonaire. Everts is the best of those I've tried. For the past 6 years my experience with Everts has been, nice people, good service, no problems with any of their vehicles. Enjoy your trip.

I have to say, I cannot agree more with Nat. We have been using Everts' services for about 12 times and they have never ever disappointed us.

Thank You to all that posted information on the Car Rentals. We appreciate all of the information.

Now, what about the MOSQUITOS? Have they all left?

Please read my trip report above: "Wow! What a Trip." I just got back and write about the little monsters.

The locals like to use Avon Skin So Soft for mosquito protection. We've never had a problem with mosquitoes in Bonaire ourselves. I don't know if it varies due to the time of year it is or not. We've always gone to Bonaire in Sept.-Nov. in the past.
Thanks!

My wife used Skin so Soft and suffered nere a bite. Surprisingly, my pre-trip Internet research indicated there is no hard data to indicate Skin so Soft actually works. In fact, the only proven mosquito deterrent is Deet. However, and this is just my opinion, as long as I'm at her side, I think my wife could wear mosquitonip and she'd never attract a single bloodsucker.

Tammy and Bill,

Last February I used Avon Skin So Soft and also suffered no bites. My husband used Deet and got no bites except the one night he forgot to use them before we went to dinner and served dinner to several mosquitoes while he was being served dinner at the Lighthouse restaurant.

Love the smell of Skin So Soft and can always use the moisturizing effect so I think I'll stick with it next month. I'll let you know how it works this trip!

I DETEST the smell of Skin So Soft, but it does work. It's AMAZING how well it works. Up in Maine, tourists and locals alike use it--and the mosquitoes are plenty ferocious up there; they have so little time, you see.

Reporting on-site from Bonaire - no this is not Geraldo! I believe I started this thread and now can report fact instead of conjecture. The mosquites have not been a problem for us. We came to the Sand$ on Sunday prepared with DEET and netting but used the DEET one time watching the sunset with wine and cheese. We have not used DEET or anything else (including netting) for sleeping and have not been bitten. Bring your repleant by all means, your mileage may vary.
