Hello everyone BT!! We got back last week from a wonderful trip to Bonaire- it was SO great that we already are fixing the budget to come back next year.I might have to do a part one and part two. Here it goes...but I don't have the pictures- they are all on the camera still!!
Sat- we made the trek to Bon uneventfully. It was snowing when we left St Louis but thank goodness it didn't delay any of our flights. For once ALL the luggage came with and didn't have its own vacation somewhere else. We were met at the airport by a very nice lady and taken to the Sorobon resort.
I have to say that its the first time we have ever stayed there. What a wonderful place!! We had a lovely welcome basket waiting for us in our room with a bottle of wine and some nibbles (Because it was so late- they offered to feed us but we were tired- we got in about 0830pm).The rooms are nicely appointed- lovely living/kitchen area- and for a kitchen they had every type of bowl and pot that you can think of to cook with (not like many apartments that have 3 spoons and a skillet)- even a salad spinner!! (I don't have one of those at my house!!) A nice bathroom with a tiled shower and a bedroom with a comfy queen sized bed. They do have air-conditioning in the bedroom (we did use it a few nights but not every night.) The main charm of the chalets (as they are called) is the large porch area- with a handy hose near the steps for washing feet. The Sorobon is on Lac bay- they next morning we enjoyed our gorgeous view (and breeze- but our house at home is in a wind tunnel on a hill-so we were right at home- only with an ocean view!!) The bay itself is lovely- we walked (1/2 a mile? A mile?) out to the reef in water that barely came up to my waist in places (and I am 5'2'')- and was clear enough to see my feet (and a few sea urchins- wear your booties!!) They do have a nice sandy beach with huts and loungers....lots of loungers....there is NO phone or television- we spent lots of time just laying on the beach waiting for happy hour!! There is a restaurant on the premises with decent food- we mostly ate breakfast and lunch in our suite (room? studio apartment?) and found all the great restaurants for dinner. Yes, the Sorobon is a naturist resort but everyone there is very friendly and there is was never any feeling that privacy would be an issue (actually- it was very nice after diving to be able to come back and get all that yucky salty stuff OFF...). Those pesky mosquitos would have been more of an issue- but in the afternoon we slathered up with the spray and the lotion. (We actually got bit up the worst getting back ON the plane- there were 'skeeters' ALL OVER the inside of our American Eagle plane back to PR. People got horribly bit up because no one thought that we would need spray at 7 AM!!) (By the way- pay your departure tax way over in the far corner- I didn't see where Mike went but it sure wasn't somewhere that was readily evident to the eye.)
We rented from AB rentals- they came out to the Sorobon on Sun. and took us back to the airport- dropping the car off as early as we were at the airport was no sweat either- we just left the keys. We scored (for some reason) a really great truck that had a lockable cover for the back (If you fixed the lock with a little hammer tap)that solved our diving theft worries. ALL the trucks ought to have one!! (Are you listening rental people? You already have tank racks in all the trucks?)
this seems long- I'll so diving and eating (the best parts of any vacation) next.

Ah, yes...we have another Bonaire addict on our hands! LOL. Great report, Tami. You have the only "fix" for PBD..Post Bonaire Depression..you are already planning for next year's trip.

That's really ugly with mosquitos on the airplane....captive mealtime for the skeeters...ugly stuff. Carole
