My husband and I made our third trip to Bonaire in October/November '04 and took our 7-yr. old daughter and my mother-in-law with us for the first time. Despite fair to poor weather during much of our stay and one flat tire, we had a great time, as usual. We stayed at the Bel-Mar, which we love, and did a combination of shore and boat diving. Our daughter snorkeled with Caren Eckrich at Sea & Discover and had a fantastic time -- this is a definite must for kids!

We're tentatively planning to return again next summer, if we can work out schedules, etc. Can't wait!!!

Hi Deborah - Welcome to BT!!
I tried your links - but they did not work!:-(:-(

I see you work at Clemson - I graduated from there many years ago - I just recently threw out my last pair of orange sweat pants!! I had not worn them in years!!! They really only fit on the Clemson campus - people look at you funny when you wear them in public!!LOL!!

Welcome to BT, Kim! Sounds like you need to start planning the return trip ASAP to hold down the PBD you are presently suffering....Post Bonaire Depression! The only cure is to book the next trip to Bonaire.

Gee, I couldn't get the pages to open up either, even with the total .exe included, etc. It tells me "Action canceled", etc.

Hopefully you can get it up and running for us to enjoy or let us know what we can do on our end to access the pages. Thanks! Ayo. Carole

Awsome slideshow Deborah.

You must have arrived about the time we were leaving Bonaire. I have a question for you, what type of camera and housung were you using? We were in Bonaire for two weeks and I didn't manage to get a single decent picture. I want to buy a better camera for underwater stills and when I see nice clear pictures like yours, I get curious about the brand and housing. Anyhow, great pics... I'm jealous ;)

Incredible slide show, Kim. I watched the topside and underwater one - the colors were awesome. That must be some expensive photography equipment!

Hi there -- sorry for the trouble people are having with the slideshows. I'm not sure how much memory or whatever your computer has to have for the slideshows to launch. One alternative to try is going to the scuba reports page on my husband's web site and downloading the shows and saving them onto your computer (rather than opening them, when you are asked what you want to do), then opening the files from your computer. Aside from that, I have no other ideas. These and our other scuba trip reports, including Bonaire 2003) can be found at:

Thanks for the compliments on the photos, Tim & Gail.
Tim -- I really use a pretty inexpensive set-up: a 2-year-old Canon A40 (2 megapixel) camera in the Canon underwater housing (total about $400.) The most expensive part is my Sea & Sea DX-90 strobe (about $500). I do have a wide angle lens, but I didn't use it for many dives on this trip. I have really liked my A40 for UW shots b/c it has a macro mode that you can toggle back and forth into. Also, try experimenting with your white balance if you're using a digital camera -- someone showed me how to do this and it made a huge difference. I can't remember if I go to +2/3 or -2/3 (you can tell by taking a couple of sample shots) -- but the colors are much better when you make this correction. I also do some post-processing (though not a lot) with JASC Paint Shop Pro.
For Christmas, I got the Canon Digital Rebel and I'm planning to get the Ikelite housing for it -- I'll be interseted to see if I can tell any difference in the UW photos. My main reason for upgrading is not the quality of the photos but the blasted shutter lag on the A40 -- a good 1/2 second sometimes -- not good for moving fish, or moving children, of which we have 2 :-)

Hi Mary -- glad it worked for you.
Speaking of your Clemson sweats, I forget that nobody else in the country really wears bright orange on a regular basis. People who come to visit our family are always amazed by how many people they see wearing orange around here. We think it's normal:-)

Kim,

Thanks for the info on your camera. I had also heard that the strobe is the key to good underwater photography. I'll have to try adjusting the white balance on my camera and see if that helps.

Thanks again. - Tim
