we were in bonaire in october. we rented a vespa and went for lunch 3 PM to the buddy dive hotel. we parked the vespa at the parking lot next to the front desk. after lunch the vespa was gone, it was stolen. we were told at the hotel that we were not guests and that they were not getting paid to watch for vespas. so, we had to go to the police in the middle of the rain ( NO HELP AT ALL) and pay to the renting store $500 for the vespa. THOSE WERE OUR WORST VACATIONS.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. When we rented motor scooters at The Plaza (Jan 04) the scooter came with both a lock for the front fork but also a chain and padlock to lock a wheel. Did the vespa come with locks and was it locked when it was stolen?

Of course I had a small goat run out in front of me and I hit the goat and wrecked the bike. Tore the ACL, MCL and damaged the Miniscus (sp?) in my right knee. Luckily it was the last day of our vacation, tough flight home. One surgery down and one to go. Of course I waived the insurance on the bike $500 damage. On the bright side the ambulance ride, x-rays and doctor visit was only $325.

I was wondering about the locking of them as well. Good to know that they do have that option.
