I put this TR in 3 parts for those of you with short attention spans. :-) Like me. I forgot to mention on Monday the pool with the iguna. We came outside to use the pool and found a medium size iguana floating around, similar to a plastic toy you might find in a child's bathtub. He looked very much alive and not particularly worried about leaving anytime soon. I swam a bit and he/she moved towards the edge of the pool, but seemed to have difficulty navigating the slippery plastic pool liner, sliding back into the water. I quickly donned my goggles and dove to the rescue, while Patty went inside to summon aid by dialing 911. (Actually, that is not true, she stayed close to the victim shouting encouragement). When it looked as though all hope would be lost, and fearing that a dead iguana would forever interrupt the delicate balance of the island's ecosystem, we took matters into our own hands, and, using the long handled pool net/filter/cleaner thingamajiggy (technical term) she reached out to the drowning reptile, yelling 'Grab the pole! We'll save you! Grab the pole!' The iguana, sensing life or death was now held in the balance, wrapped his little arms around the pole, and was lifted to shore, where he dropped off, panting, gasping for air. Patty and I looked at each other as I came out of the deep blue pool - who would provide CPR? Obviously the poor fella would need immediate medical care -what was the address on that animal hospital? Do they have an ambulance? We turned back to the iguana, in time to see him wandering off towards the shrubs and aloe plants. We slept better that night, knowing in our hearts we saved a life and the iguana had a great story to tell his family and friends over dinner. :-)
