No major change, but we spent a good chunk of the afternoon archiving old messages and threads to make the viewing of active subjects happen more quickly.

We are planning on moving the servers on which BonaireTalk, InfoBonaire, and the Bonaire WebCams are hosted this week. During the move of a particular server, the server will be unavailable for up to about 6 hours (unless your ISP doesn't have his servers configured properly, in which case it could be longer).

The server on which the Bonaire WebCams site is located will probably be moved on Wednesday, October 24th. While the servers on which BonaireTalk and InfoBonaire are located will be moved Thursday, October 25th. Moves will be happening between 5pm and 11pm on each respective day.

The new version of our discussion group software has been installed. The most prominent changes noticable may be a slight improvement in performance when submitting messages, and the inclusion of a spell checker, which some of you have requested.

We have also added a button to every page to allow new users to register directly instead of having to search for a means to join in the conversation.

If you encounter any problems, please send moderator@BonaireTalk.com a message.

The BonaireTalk discussion group will be closed for new posts during the afternoon of Saturday, May 20th as a result of an upgrade to the discussion group software.

BonaireTalk is fully operational again. Some of you may see quite a bit of improvement in terms of response time from the BonaireTalk Newsgroup software now that it's on a faster server with a better Internet connection.

Greetings all!

Tonight, on March 19th, BonaireTalk will be taken off-line for several hours while we move the newsgroup and domain to a new, faster server. During the down time you may not be able to access BonaireTalk, and you will not be able to post messages even if you can see existing messages.

BonaireTalk should be up and running again as of no later than 9am EST.

We just moved over 150 old sub-topics under the Everything Else topic down under an "archives" sub-topic. The same thing will happen to other sub-topic lists as time goes on to help keep the current stuff more easily and quickly accessible.

The move of the InfoBonaire Newsgroup was completed today at 2:45pm. Because of the popularity of the newsgroup we have spun it off into its own Web site, called BonaireTalk - since that best describes what goes in the newsgroup.

All your old bookmarks for InfoBonaire's Newsgroup should work fine, however we recommend that you update them to reference the new site: http://www.oldbonairetalk.com.

Please post any questions you have in the "Using the Newsgroup Software" topic.

Enjoy!

Please be advised that we are presently in the process of moving the newsgroup over to a new server. We expect this process to be completed by the end of the day on Thursday, September 14th.

Until such time, no new posts to the newsgroup will be permitted (even though you will see Add Message boxes on all the pages - submitting a message will result in an error).

We will post a notice here once the newsgroup is moved and operational again.

As the contents of this newsgroup are ever growing we've made some changes, and are planning others:

- We've moved all the trip reports we could find into a new top-level topic called, appropriately enough "Trip Reports". Please post your trip reports here.

- We've done a little bit of cleaning up in some topic areas - moving things into more appropriate places, splitting large discussions into multiple smaller ones, etc., and will shortly be deleting all messages we can find which have bad image file uploads (i.e. ones that say "Your Image Here").

- We will soon be moving the newsgroup to a new Web server, and under its own domain. It will still remain completely accessible via all your existing bookmarks, however. At the point at which the move is to occur, the newsgroup will be temporarily shut down, we expect for about 12 hours, while we move it to its new, faster home.

More later...

Hi everyone,

While this isn't exactly a change, we'd like to help you make posting messages in the InfoBonaire newsgroup easier for frequent posters. There's a configuration option in each registered user's profile (reached by clicking the Edit Profile icon in the toolbar below) which talks about "cookies". See the extraction below:

__ Remember my username and password in a cookie
__ Clear the cookie when I exit my browser

If you check off the box for the first item, and then save the settings (via a button shortly below the extracted text), then anytime you want to post a new message on the newsgroup you'll already find your user name and password fields filled in for you, so you don't need to remember what these values are, nor spend extra time typing them in each time.

If multiple people share your system, you may also want to check off the second box which clears the user name and password information off your system whenever you close down your Web browser. If you do this, then you will have to reenter your username and password once only for each browsing session.

Hopefully this will help you make your newsgroup participation even easier.

1999-May-20 - Added Trip Reports

Based on a request from one of our users, we've added a new sub-topic to the Everything Else section of the newsgroup, entitled Trip Reports. The new sub-topic will allow anyone wanting to share a Bonaire trip report to add it in that section as a new conversation (sub-topic). To get there, click on either the Topics or Tree View icons in the toolbar at the bottom of this page.

Enjoy!
