Our last trip we never rented a car. This trip we are so we want to head to the best snorkle spots. How long should we figure to head to the park and snorkle and get back. Do we need to get passes or anything? I also would love to try Lac Bay where the wind surfers go. Can anyone help me. We did Woodwind and Renee in 2006 but we will still do them again but really want to go out and explore. Do you leave car unlocked when you snorkle or locked with nothing in it? Other great spots are appreciated. We are staying at the Divi. I snorkled down to the inlet by the Plaza last time. Should I cross the inlet or is the best right on the corner of the inlet? Thanks alot. Kent

Kent, If you go to the park make a day of it. The long route takes 2 1/2 hours, if you don't stop. When you get your snorkel tags keep the reciept. Free admission to the park with the reciept. If you lock your car/truck the perps will break the window to get in. Enjoy your trip...

And you also have to bring a picture ID with your tag and reciept when you go to the park. And yes - windows down, car unlocked.

when going to the park, take lots of water and some snacks. yes, leave the windows down. take 2 liter bottles full of water and leave them on the dashboard...great for rinsing when you get out of the water.

When in the park, be sure to snorkel at Wayaka II. Great stuff. Also we loved snorkeling right out in front of Divi. Renee says it's one of the best night snorkel spots on the island! We bought lights and did a night snorkel our last evening there, and it was great! Lots of lobster, and a nice 5 foot tarpon who followed us like a dog for 45 minutes, eating fish that were caught in our lights. Have a great time! We're looking forward to our next trip to Bonaire next October!

Kent: Agree with Michael above, don't misss Wayaka II - home of the dinner plate size French angels - who follow you around like puppy dogs.

Last time (8 years ago) we were in Bonaire we were diving. This time we plan to just snorkel.

There is a snorkel tag that is $10 instead of $20 (or $25). The snorkel tag is square instead of round.

We were asked for our tag when on Island in January. Fortunately we had it on. We agree it is for a good cause so the $10 seems very reasonable.

We have had rangers come on to the boat, and ask to see everyone's tags. We were asked in front of BOA 2 years ago by rangers... Ron

Glad I went to this forum. Like I said, it has been 8 years since our last trip to Bonaire. Were were dive certified in 1990. Dove for 12 years. Now it is time to relax and snorkel. The risks of diving increase with age, and we have been there and scene an awful lot during our diving adventures.

Yes. Dive shops will supply the tag once you receive your mandatory marine park briefing.

They have begun to do spot checks for the passes not really worth the hassle spend the fee and again fee used for reefs and park I think a car is the way to go explore the island 1000 steps excellent for snorkel all sites in the south are sure to please lac bay not much to see and could result in a collision with wind surfer but still a great spot to wade and get a great sandwich at jibe city
